| Wasatch Mountain Club Trip Report: Green River Daily Adventure What better way to beat the heat than paddling through thrilling rapids? Kay, Arnie, Chris, Madison, and Mike couldn't agree more! Chris, a new club member from Washington, joined us on Saturday for a float down the Green River Daily, from Butler Put-In to Swazey's. With four inflatable kayaks (IKs) and one hardshell, we tackled the river head-on. Madison took a surprise dip at Stone Cabin Rapid when a side roller knocked her off her IK, but with true paddler grit, she climbed back in without missing a beat. The relentless sun made our second lap a real scorcher, but the rapids kept things exciting. During the final shuttle, Arnie and Mike came across a sheep tangled in barbed wire. Without hesitation, Arnie freed the animal, and as the wind carried whispers of his name - whether a ghostly ritual or a grateful baa - aaaarrnie aaaaarnie, we may never know. Sunday brought a fresh challenge. Mike, Madison, and Chris returned to Butler, this time with Blimey, a brand-new 12' raft, ready for its maiden voyage. While navigating the shuttle, we spotted more goats and cranes gracefully skimming the river. Thankfully, the champagne bottle christening the raft didn't leave it with any unintended holes! Despite plenty of trial-and-error rigging, fueled by a few choice words that we cannot repeat in good company, we finally got the raft water-ready. Chris took the helm, with Mike and Madison paddling alongside in IKs. It was another exhilarating day on the river, soaking up the summer heat and dreaming of following the flow all the way to the ocean. |
