| Four hikers (Julie, Ed, Mitch & Don) enjoyed a full day of hiking from South Ogden to Mt Ogden. The Beus trail follows a small stream for much of the first hour, including a very large fern garden, which was still amazing even though the ferns have died out for the year. The trail then rises out of the canyon into various southwest exposures below the back side of Snowbasin ski resort. The weather was perfect, so we made good time and ascended the 4700 feet in less than five hours. We all enjoyed lunch at the summit under the communications towers, with a birds-eye view of the ski resort below. We then hiked back down the same way for a really nice 12-mile, 8-hour outing. |
