| Late November brought warm and dry weather instead of snow. We took advantage of the conditions by hiking up the west face of Grandeur Peak on 2 separate occasions. On Sunday November 23, Ronna, Eve, Neil, Dave and Shelley went for a training hike and ascended the direct south-ridge route in just under 2 hours. We descended via the north ridge to arrive back at the trailhead. This was so successful that we planned another similar outing for Thanksgiving Day. Several more people showed up for this one, no doubt to try and work off the anticipated turkey dinner later in the day. Joe, Demien and Yijia elected to do a partial hike, turning around at the crossover between the south and north ridges, whilst Mary, Shelley, Dave, Thomas and Eve went on to the summit. By a happy coincidence we ran into Steph on the summit with her 2 dogs. They had come up from the Church Fork side. She offered 3 of us a ride back to our cars if we descended with her. Thomas, Dave and Shelley elected to do this option, while Eve and Mary made short work of the descent of the west face. Both days were a fun way to stay in shape for the upcming ski season. |
