| Six hikers (Don, Al, Sandra, Mitch, Karen & Ed) enjoyed a beautiful Autumn day hiking the foothills above Ogden. After about 2 miles on the BST we ascended the steep Hidden Valley trail for about 2,000 ft. We then took an unnamed loop towards the back side of Snowbasin ski resort. Before reaching the summit, we took a 20 minute detour to explore another unnamed trail not on the maps. We determined that it connects to the popular Indian trail, which would be a good future loop hike, combined with Hidden Valley trail from the 22nd street trailhead. We had snacks at the top of the unnamed loop trail, then continued down to the junction of Hidden Valley and Taylor Canyon trails. From there we descended down to the 29th street trailhead. The 5-hour hike ended up being 8.5 miles and 3100 ft., slightly more than the advertised 7 mile, 2400 ft., NTD hike (oops!). But all was forgiven after the group enjoyed beers and food at UTOG brewery in downtown Ogden. |
