| Participants: Reid G, Matt M, Caroline P, Kerry R The four of us met at Snowbird after work for a round of Hidden Peak repeats, with a plan to hit the summit twice. We started up via Cirque Ridge, the same route used by the Cirque Series and Speedgoat 30K. It was hot, and with all of us coming off a full work day, it was a slog to the top. Still, we made steady progress and summited with enough time for another lap. After a gondola ride down, we started back up, this time via Chip's Switchbacks, moving a bit slower than the first lap. About 900 feet below the summit, the light started going, and with most of the group without headlamps, we made the easy call to turn around rather than chase the second summit in the dark. The descent back to the cars was easy compared to the climbs, and we enjoyed the faster pace, spotting several deer along the way. By the time we got back to the cars, we'd covered about 9.5 miles and 5,500 feet of gain. |
