I traveled light this time, sent my camping stuff up with Paul and had Tim check a bag for me. It was 95 degrees outside and I ate dinner by the fireplace in the Delta lounge, all thanks to Tim. Then our flight got delayed an hour, and once we finally boarded we sat on the runway for another hour because the plane was too heavy to take off. Should have sent more stuff with Paul.

Gail was a last minute add and filled up the rest of the space in Paul's truck. They picked up Tom in Seattle and headed for the border, where Paul realized he'd forgotten his passport at home and had to call a locksmith to get it out of his safe. Steph flew it up to Vancouver and Gail smuggled Paul into Canada after midnight.

Gail and Tom had to drop all the gear off at camp first, since she needed the space in the truck to go grab Tali and Steph at the airport. Tom stayed behind to guard the pile against the wood rats while Gail did the airport run. When Matt flew into Vancouver, we just told him he was riding with us without filling him in on any of it.

Turns out Tom had the right idea guarding the gear, the camp host confirmed the wood rats would eat anything we left in our tents. She also warned us about bears that turned out to be entirely made up, which meant we spent the trip either hiding the cooler behind a tent or hauling the whole thing all the way to Tim's luxury cabin. Somewhere in there a raccoon we named Fredward moved into Paul's truck overnight after someone left a window down in the rain, and ate through our snacks.

Gail showed up with six kinds of hummus and a bunch of wine bottles to go with the box wine and Oreos we already had. Steph dropped her phone while peeing and it slid down a pretty treacherous slope right before we hopped on Spirit of Squamish, the most popular 8 pitch route around. She didn't get it back until after we finished the whole climb, when she and Tali built a high angle rescue system to go retrieve it.

On that same first day, Tom somehow ended up with an extra blue .3 cam that he must have swiped off one of the parties climbing next to us. After that we were pretty leery about lending him any of our own gear.

We got Matt drunk at camp one night and he admitted he's in a new relationship with Caroline. Tali and I made Japanese curry for everyone, though my food always ended up in whatever car wasn't at camp that day. I spilled half the onions on the ground, which the wood rats were probably thrilled about. Gail was a good sport even though nobody told her to bring crack gloves, she got swallowed up by a wide crack while I dragged her up Spirit of Squamish.

Tim and I climbed the Chief, 17 pitches before noon. Steph and Tom did Calculus Crack and part of Long Time No See. Tom did great leading Indra's Net, which sits directly above a glacier blue river.
