Following a ground school outing during the week, ten climbers took to the S. Ridge of Superior to practice and develop their newfound skills. Many folks know the S. Ridge as an easy climb with just a few sections of 5th class movement; however, the large amount of 4th class terrain offers ample complexity and exposure for training with alpine ropework.

With that - five teams spun up their kiwi coils and practiced a variety of advanced climbing techniques: from hip and terrain belays, to gearless anchors, to simul-climbing and short-pitching. It was a great opportunity to refine a highly nuanced skillset in moderate and forgiving terrain that's conveniently close to home. Even if the day wore on longer than several expected, the main goal of learning was certainly accomplished!
