| Growing up at the foot of Mount Olympus, I never imagined that you could climb a ridge for nearly 2,000 vertical feet to reach the summit. In fact, most people don't notice Geurt's Ridge, even though it's just a short distance from the main hiking trail. Along the way, you get some great 5th class climbing, including positive holds, hand jams, two short rappels, and even some mixed climbing, if you go in early Spring, as we did. There's nothing as enjoyable as alpine-style climbing in your own backyard, ascending features you have seen a million times from every angle but these ones. Thanks to Nathan for organizing and expertly guiding between sections of simul-climbing, unroped scrambling, quick belay transitions, and pitched-out sections of thoughtful rock climbing. |
