Four of us (John, Neil, Eve and Geoff) started out from Albion Basin, on still crunchy but rapidly warming snow, and headed up towards the top of Sugarloaf lift. Geoff was looking for a shorter day and turned around at the Cecret Lake turn off. The rest of us continued up to the top of the lift where we stopped for a food and water break. We then continued to skin up Sugarloaf peak, staying on the benchy terrain on the south side of the peak. Here the snow was just softening up to be nicely edgeable and we made the summit with only a short section of scrambling near the top where the snow had melted out. Unfortunately, the descent route along the east ridge also had several melted out sections, so we alternated skis on and skis off as we made our way down to the col between Sugarloaf and Devil's Castle. It was well worth the extra effort however, as we were rewarded with a delightful run down from the col. The lower steep roll was starting to shed some snow, so we were just in time for skiing this line. We finished the tour with an easy exit through the woods towards the base of Supreme lift and skied down Home Run back to the cars. This was a fun day and it's always a treat to ski the east side of Devil's Castle from the top.
