| The first outdoor "Climb Like A Girl" event started off appropriately when organizer Steph realized the only writing implement available to fill out the participant waiver was a purple-ink marker. Ten badass women climbers descended on Ledgemere and led sport climbs ranging from cruisey 5.6s to pumpy 5.8s. Several participants also placed a trad piece or two on a route featuring a finger-sized vertical crack stretching about 10 feet between the last bolt and the anchors. There were lots of highlights from the evening. Bess, new to climbing with the club and usually more of a boulderer, absolutely crushed the sport climbs on lead. Eve built her first top rope anchor after a quick lesson from Tali. Stephanie stepped back into climbing on one of her two precious nights off. And Maleah placed her first trad piece and loved it. All of us thoroughly enjoyed laps on the short but fun routes. The neighboring picnic site had a delicious-smelling cookout, though sadly nary a morsel was offered our way. Still, we enjoyed a fantastic, supportive evening cragging in a beautiful wooded setting. If you've been thinking about joining us in this inclusive space, please do! We meet every other Thursday and plan to soon start incorporating weekend outings too. |
