| On October 29 our group of five met at the Z Trail Bonneville Shoreline Trail trailhead on Thousand Oaks Drive. It was a beautiful sunny cool fall day, perfect for a challenging hike. We headed out promptly at 9 am, up the Z Trail and past the old mine spring at the top, which was totally dried up. From there we crossed the lower Zeus chute drainage to connect to the lower Apollo couloir drainage. We headed up the steep chute bounded by tall quartzite walls. Our team utilized their solid rock climbing skills to make the class 4 scramble up the chute to the west Mt Olympus ridgeline. We had a nice break to enjoy the views and eat lunch at the top of the West Slabs. Then we headed down a social trail along the west ridge which eventually connected back to the BST. We followed the BST north back to the Z Trail where we parked. The fall colors were fantastic and a good time was had by all! |
