rock climb - alpine shakedown on the gray slabs - June 28, 2026

The Gray Slabs (5.9, 10p, III) at Snowbasin Resort is a classic Wasatch climb, and a test-piece for the aspiring alpine rock climber wishing to pit themselves against a time box. We'll all take the gondola up, but it's a loooong walk back if you miss the last gondola down!

The route itself offers engaging complexity in route-finding, several transitions between pitching and scrambling, and a fun sport crux in the first two pitches (which can be bypassed, making the route ~5.7 trad if desired). Successfully managing the terrain, transitions, and selves throughout this day is a good data point for taking on longer or more committing objectives where objective hazard is the time constraint vs. mere inconvenience.

RSVP via. email to express interest in joining. Priority will be given to those registered or waitlisted for alpine climbing trips later in the season. Carpools from SLC can be arranged, and I'll often snag food & beverage at The Angry Goat in Ogden afterwards.
