hike: silver lake / silver glance lake af canyon - October 3, 2026
Silver Lake: American Fork Canyon, then on to Silver Glance Lake. Silver Lake is a favorite fall hike. There is an aspen forest at 7600 feet. It may not be at peak, but mountain sides nearby should have lots of color. I have been to Silver Lake many times, but not to Silver Glance. It's about 3/4 of a mile past Silver Lake with one short section of a 40% grade and an average of 20% between Silver Lake and Silver Glance. I would expect about a 45 minute wait if you want to hang out at Silver Lake while others continue to Silver Glance. MOD+ for continuing to Silver Glance.
It's a 25 minute drive on a rough dirt road to get to the trailhead. I have a truck we can take, but if there are more than I have room for then we need to plan which other vehicles to take, so please send an email or text if you are planning to come and indicate whether you have an SUV. National Parks Pass or day pass required at the trailhead, but not at the meeting place outside the canyon.
