Trip Report: Day Hike - Box Elder Peak
Day Hike - Box Elder Peak
By Frank Bouchard
| A group of five of us spent our Sunday marching up Dry Canyon and triumphantly bagging Box Elder peak. We began our hike in the cool shade at the Horsetail Falls trailhead, considered the more scenic of the approaches. It also turns out to have the most mileage and elevation gain, making for a very long and a very vertical day (14.25 miles and 5750 feet of gain). But our group was strong and determined, so reaching the summit was a piece of cake. The trip ended with a long slog through the scorching summer heat. But overall it was a satisfying day.
