Trip Report: Lake Blanche-Mineral Fork Hike

Lake Blanche-Mineral Fork Hike
By Frank Bouchard
HIKE 06/23/2024 MSD

Five club members set out into Mineral Fork Basin on a Sunday morning. We quickly ascended the canyon. Two turned back before the final, steep climb. Using ice axes, the other three of us got up to the ridge separating Mineral Fork and Lake Blanche basins. We took a detour to Mineral Fork peak and found a communal camp chair which was way too comfortable for a wilderness mountain summit (luckily there was only one and we had to take turns). Then we descended a steep scree field into Lake Blanche basin. Through patches of snow and wet grassy meadows, we made our way down without seeing a single person. Lake Blanche and the final hike out was packed as usual.
