| The weather report for Saturday kept calling for rain and snow, and hurricane force winds up high. But those patches of blue sky gave us optimism, and indeed it turned out to be a beautiful day for a WMC hike up the Dragons Tail route to Grandeur. There was just enough moisture from the recent rain to keep the little rocks in place on the approach to the tail, that wavey limestone outcrop you can see from the valley. Soon after dragon's tail, we got into the snow. It was sometimes a bit challenging to keep the best route and find good footing, and the wind did pick up as we got closer to the top. The clouds were moving fast and crazy dynamic, ranging from brilliant blue sky, to white fluffy clouds, to deep dark storm clouds to the southeast. We opted for the /4well packed traditional route back /4down, which got pretty sloppy as the snow gave way to slush and mud. I was surprised at the number of outdoor enthusiast who were yo-yoing up and down Grandeur in running shorts! Great day with good friends :-) |
