Trip Report: Rock Climb - Beginner Friendly

Rock Climb - Beginner Friendly

CLIMBING 07/31/2025 NTD

Ten climbers and 4 volunteers assailed Ambush Wall in Big Cottonwood Canyon for this beginner-friendly climb. Quite a few experienced folks came out because they were new to the club and the Wasatch. We also had some of our favorite familiar faces pop in for a chill afternoon with friends.

One participant expressed doubt that she'd get to the top of anything, after I regretfully informed her that this was not, in fact, the easiest climbing Cottonwoods. But she tried anyway, and ended up getting to the top of multiple climbs with strength and style. With the Send Train set in motion, other climbers pulled roofs, linked pumpy sequences and topped out on every climb the volunteers set up.

Thank you all for a fantastic turnout and fun afternoon. I know that it's not always easy to put yourself out there, or try something new or scary. Also many thanks to the volunteers - Nathan, Paul and Neil - for setting up top ropes, giving sendy belays, and coaching and encouraging every participant.

We'll definitely be hosting more of these, so keep an eye on the calendar!
