| The West Desert is packed with interesting little mountain ranges that practically nobody goes to. I picked out one of these and organized a Sunday hike. Me, Hong, and Dennis drove out to Fisher Pass (named after engineer Carl Fisher who conceived of the first trans-American highway) and spent the day aimlessly wandering around the Onaqui Mountains. From the pass we followed the ridge. There were no trails but the terrain was mostly gentle grassy slopes and easy to navigate. Eventually we dropped down to a dirt road and took that back to the car. In total we covered about 7 miles. Even in such a small range, there was still plenty more to explore to warrant a future trip. |
