| Organized by Eric. Joined by Nathan, Dan, and Garret. Starting up Alta, we crossed Catherine's Pass and lost a few hundred feet of elevation to reach the bottom of the ridge. We quickly encountered a crux section, where Nathan and Eric placed gear, while those of us with skis sidestepped the 5th-class moves. From there, the climb alternated between exciting knife-edge ridges, snow gullies, and loose rock. The exposure was exciting, as was the weather, which shifted from sun to squalls. Overall, this climb was a perfect gear test: rack, rope, skis or snowshoes, crampons, cameras, ice axe, avy gear, and everything else we had in bins at home came in handy at points. |
