| After work, the three of us-Frank, Zack, and Anja-decided to see what all the hype was about on the urban section of the Ogden River. Apparently, floating through downtown is the cool thing to do when it's 100 degrees. We met at Walmart, because every great river adventure starts in a parking lot. Two tubers and one kayaker headed out to scout the features before launching. The river was running at 388 cfs and packed a surprising amount of fun into 1.5 miles. We stopped to play at the popular surf wave under the Gramercy Street Bridge before cooling off with a swim at Crystal Wave below Wall Avenue. While this stretch is often described as "kid and dog friendly," we'd respectfully like to submit an amendment. At 388 cfs, there's enough maneuvering to keep things interesting. Kids? Maybe. Athletic dogs with excellent river-reading skills? Perhaps. Your average golden retriever just looking for a relaxing float? Probably not. Overall, it's a fantastic little run with fun features, easy access, and a great way to escape the summer heat without leaving town. |
