| Anja Wadman and Zach Heuscher's original plan was to head for Strawberry Peak, enjoying the scenic ridgeline and taking in views of Mount Ogden, Allen Peak, Floyd Iverson Ridge, and The Needles along the way. After reaching Strawberry, we decided to make the day a little more adventurous by going on a recon mission to summit the lesser-known DeMoisy Peak. From the saddle between Strawberry and DeMoisy, we picked up the game trail that contours around DeMoisy's east side. The trail doesn't actually reach the summit and some class 3 scrambling is involved to get to the summit. This was an easier approach than tackling the brushy ridgeline. The ascent to the summit is much more gradual and enjoyable. After tagging DeMoisy, we had a long decent and steep slopes down. The hike offers beautiful views back toward Mount Ogden and east across the Wasatch. **Peaks on the hike:** * Allen Peak - 9,465 ft (145 ft prominence) * Mount Ogden - 9,570 ft (3,810 ft prominence) * The Needles - 9,240 ft (80 ft prominence) * DeMoisy Peak - 9,363 ft (363 ft prominence) * Strawberry Peak - 9,265 ft (145 ft prominence) |
