hike: grizzly gulch to prince of wales mine - August 13, 2026
(Rain forecast is unfortunately slipping to a little later. We will not cancel yet, but it's looking more likely we will not hike to the mine due to lightning potential. An alternate route is the trail along the river, which is still a healthy 1000' elevation gain over 2 miles. This route also has a good history of not being muddy even when wet. Will continue to monitor weather.) We'll carpool from the LCC park and ride departing at 5:45 PM and head to to the Alta-Brighton Trailhead, following Grizzly Gulch to the mine. Could be slightly more than two hours. We shouldn't need headlamps, but best to start bringing one. Current forecast: a little rain earlier in the day, 55-60 F during the hike.
