grandeur peak loop training day hike - October 25, 2026

Grandeur Peak is a great objective in shoulder season as it is usually snow free but still offers plenty of vertical on a steep grade to make for an excellent training hike. I don't expect any snow on the route this Sunday, but will keep an eye on the conditions as some snow is expected up high on the weekend.

After spotting cars at the Church Fork Trailhead, we will return to the West Grandeur Peak Trailhead and hike up the relatively short but steep trail to the summit of Grandeur Peak. From there, we will descend the other side to Church Fork. This loops saves about 1000 feet of descent and is a less steep alternative to returning via the ascent route.

Please bring a warm layer and a rain jacket. A hat and gloves might also be handy as the west side of the peak could be cold in the morning. Please register to let me know that you are coming. I will advise participants if I think microspikes might be needed.
