*do the book* - stairs gulch day hike - September 5, 2026
Stairs Gulch is sustained steep - half the time steep hiking and half gentle scrambling. Scrambling is that gray area between steep hiking and rock climbing. So just think of it as climbing without a rope. The canyon walls all around are steep and intimidating. There are no trails and no people. It's stark and wild. It's steep enough to stay shaded until reaching the cooler air layers near the top. The club has little history of regular hikes here. Some of us will drop down the Robison route into Broad's Fork while others may continue on to Twin Peaks. Elevation-wise equivalent to Olympus + 500 feet (+ another 1200 vert if you continue to the Twins).
