day hike - the sheeprock mountains - June 28, 2026
We plan to hike to Buck Hollow Baldy (7763 ft), Cherry Creek Peak (7650 ft), and Scotia Peak (7261 ft) in the Sheeprock Mountains near Vernon. I have hiked in the area but not to those peaks. We will do a 10.4 mile loop. The elevation difference between the TH and the highest point is approximately 1000 ft. But there will be lots of ups and downs. The route is entirely in the class 2 backcountry. Expect a long drive (1.5 hours from SLC one way). The number of participants will depend on how many high clearance vehicles the group will have. Please bring 10 essentials. Please email before June 26 Friday, 6 pm, for the meeting place and time. Registration is required. Registration priority will be given to WMC members. Registrants will receive more detailed info. Update (6/23/2026): The wind forecast says the wind direction would be WNW. So the Sheeprock Mountains would not get smoke from Iron Fire.
